Studying of Taiwan Seafarers’ Mental Health and Influencing Factors / 我國船員心理健康及其影響因素之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 商船學系所 / 95 / The purpose of the study is to discuss Seafarers’ mental health conditions and relative influencing factors. Seafarers have to work in bored , routine, and limited environment for a long period of time, which have directly caused seafarers health pressure, and raised uncertainty of navigation safety. Moreover, the more navigation time ,the more the seafarers’ isolation from society and their family, and therefore they lack affection and emotion interaction.

 This study is organized by five main dimensions of seafarers’ mental health factors : seafarers’ working characteristics ,social and relationship, career and work ,family and affection, and mental emotion pressure. Every dimension is composed of two or three sub-dimension. The study is to do current investigation towards Taiwan seafarers ,and to understand the seafarers’ mental condition ,and further to discover relative influencing mental health factors.

 The result of the study shows that “seafarer working factor” and “marriage and affection” have highly interrelated, and affect seafarers’ mental health need. Different personal background and working background have differently influenced mental health .
