碩士 / 國立聯合大學 / 環境與安全衛生工程學系碩士班 / 95 / In this study, chitosan microparticles were prepared from chitosan of cuttlefish by sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) ion gelation method. The particle size distribution of microparticles was measured with dynamic light scattering meter and pore characteristic was measured with BET Porous Materials Inc. The effects of TPP concentration on average particle size, particle size distribution, BET specific area, pore volume as well as average pore size of microparticle physical properties, were investigated. The results revealed that the best physical property of microparticles appared at TPP consumption value of 0.8 wt%. Three chitosan microparticles , prepared by three different TPP concentrations , were employed for adsorption of higher molecular (M.W. of 466 to 1701 g mol-1) adsorbates: reactive dye (RR123), acid dye (AB74), and tannic acid (TA) to investigate the adsorption isotherm of equilibrium and kinetics. Six acidic dyes of comprehensive molecular structure-AO12, AO10, AR73, AG25, and AB74 were selected for investigating the effects of molecular structure of dye on adsorption chitosan microparticles. Adsorption isotherm equilibrium was better analyzed with Langmuir isotherm equation. Favorable parameter (KLCL) instead of separation factor (RL) was suggested to infer the type of adsorption process. Adsorption of RR123 belongs to highly favorable while those AB74 and TA, favorable. Adsorption kinetics was better analyzed with Elovich equation. Suitably inferred parameter, (1/b)ln(ab), of kinetic behavior of microparticles was suggested, representing instant adsorption capability of nanoparticles. The results of this work provide references of preparation method and applications of ever widely used chitosan microparticles. It was proved that chitosan microparticles in this work demonstrated instant adsorption capability of nanoparticles.
