A Study on Professional Development of Scientific Teaching for overseas Taiwan School Teachers / 海外臺灣學校教師科學教學專業發展之研究

碩士 / 臺北市立教育大學 / 自然科學教育學系 / 95 / The objects of this research were teachers who attend training courses held by Taipei Municipal University of Education from overseas Taiwan School. This research aimed to (1) explore the participants’ viewpoints towards in-service training inside and outside overseas Taiwan School; (2) explore the practical status of scientific teaching environment in overseas Taiwan School; (3) investigate the participants’ viewpoints towards training held by Taipei Municipal University of Education; (4) investigate the participants’ perception of teaching professional development; (5) investigate the participants’ perception of scientific spirit; and (6) investigate the participants’ need for future scientific training courses.
This research was a qualitative research which applied individual interview, panel discussion and questionnaire. First, this research developed training courses and activities of scientific knowledge for teachers of overseas Taiwan School based on previous investigation on training courses of scientific knowledge in overseas Taiwan School, and literature of scientific curriculum plan, teacher’s professional development . Second, the research explored participants’ viewpoints of training held by Taipei Municipal University of Education through individual interview, and panel discussion. Third, the research investigated participants’ need for future scientific training courses, their viewpoints of teaching professional development and scientific spirit by questionnaire.
The research findings included (1) there were not many training chances for teachers of overseas Taiwan School; (2) teaching resources and equipments were not easily got as the school is overseas; (3) participants’ thought the scientific courses designed by Taipei Municipal University of Education were helpful to their teaching, and thought the courses could be more in-depth and held continuously; participants’ also hoped the scientific course could provide more practical course, builded scientific resources websites for browsing and learning, setted up summer or winter master programs, held overseas training and children’s scientific summer camp; (4) participants’ teaching or not-teaching science both thought teaching professional development was important and necessary; (5) participants’ teaching or not-teaching science both recognized scientific spirit and sometimes applied it in teaching; (6) participants’ teaching or not-teaching science both recognized the need of scientific training courses designed by this research.
As overseas Taiwan School is in South-East Asia, teachers did not have many chances of teaching professional development. Sponsored by Ministry of Education, Taipei Municipal University of Education developed and held scientific training activities, helped to develop scientific teaching professional for teachers from overseas Taiwan School and proceeded investigation and research. The results would be reference for overseas Taiwan School and educational administration.
