The community hoped that we could form the maritime museum or warship museum opening to the public by these original destroyers. In the meantime, the Kaohsiung harbor authorities released some old territory that was no more used in commerce. The Kaohsiung city government started to draw up the water bank renovation program. The plan included to found a warship museum and hoped that would start afresh the harbor space and transmit seaport impressions. Therefore the founding environment factors and follow-up management mode about warship museum is the subject of this study.
In the beginning of this text, that will introduce the developing profile of domestic and overseas warship museums, the museum associations that to be interrelated, observing and describing the progress of the planning warship museum in Kaohsiung. Afterward, seven museums were chosen to be the study samples, they are the United States Navy Museum in Washington D.C., Baltimore Maritime Museum, Independent Seaport Museum in Philadelphia, Battleship New Jersey, Gang Neung Unification Park Warship Pavilion in Korea, Sap Gyo Ho Marine Park in Korea, and Memorial Ship MIKASA in Japan. In accordance with the purpose and questions of this study, that was aimed at the types of warship museum, the problems about establishment, the preservation ways of warship hull, the fashion and contents of exhibition, collection and research divisions, the style of education activities, the related practice of management, and finally making a conclusion.
With regard to the planning warship museum in Kaohsiung city, the present study suggests that: 1) To select the suitable type of warship museum, 2) To found a more specialized planning committee, make sustainable preparation. 3) Berthing at wharf as the first choice of ship hull. 4) Exhibition style and content must presenting diverse contents. 5) To attach importance to the divisions of collection and research. Replenishing the museum resources. 6 To make out the variety and lively activities of education. 7) To reinforce popularization and marketing, seeking for external resource.
Depending on the presentation of this study, hoping that could provide more reference bases to the planning warship museum in Kaohsiung. And expecting the museum will open to the public in near future, also attaining to sustainable operation.
