Investigation of Wave Spectrum Characteristics of Moving Underwater Submarines / 潛艇潛航水面擾動波譜特徵之研究

Accurate assessments of the free surface effect are always important for obtaining estimates of hydrodynamic loads and response of submerged moving bodies. In order to have a better understanding about the physical characteristics of free surface variations arising from a large submerged moving body, this thesis will take submarine as a research topic and employ the dynamic moving mesh technique, finite volume method and volume of fluid method to resolve the underwater flow field of submerged body under the influence of the free surface effect. Obviously, in a calm sea the wave height and its pattern generated by a submerged moving body could depend on some parameters such as the body’s geometric form, volume size, translation speed, and location etc. However, research which has really documented the link between these mentioned parameters and the wave pattern is meager. Such a wave pattern displaying on the free surface could be regarded as important information of the inherent kinematic characteristics of bodies. Therefore, the aim of this thesis attempts to explore how the parameters and wave patterns are related using numerical simulation. This research involving a systematic survey of underwater motion for large submerged bodies mainly concerns the construction of wave spectrum database of the corresponding bodies themselves. Furthermore, while the database is collaborated with advanced satellite image technology, it could become a new means to track the submerged bodies in moving status. Compared with the traditional sonar detecting system, the idea proposed in this study could be used to monitor the dynamic behavior of submerged bodies in secrecy. Based on the technique developed in this study, the numerical results could be applied to reveal the detailed flow physics for unsteady flow study, as well as in providing a useful tool for military and marine science applications.
