Recently, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) techniques develop and progress rapidly. The largest retailing enterprise, Wal-Mart, requests its first 100 subordinate retailing shops to introduce RFID techniques to manage their goods. Also, the Department of Defense of the United States declared to adopt RFID techniques fully. These two decisions raise curtain of RFID techniques. These decisions obtain the convenience of RFID and promote the development of related industries of RFID techniques. Other countries and industries also begin to consider the feasibility and applications of RFID. Currently, RFID can be applied to many situations, for example, logistics, transportation, medical, product management, security control, and supply chain management, etc. In many industries and
academic fields, there are many experts and researchers spend much cost to research RFID techniques. However, RFID techniques must match hardware facilities with perfect backend management system. Also, RFID can bring effects for enterprises and their respective departments. In this thesis, we discuss successful key performance factors of introducing RFID techniques to Taiwanese industries. Firstly, we collect related literatures. Secondly, we investigate manufacturing, medical, logistic, and retailing industries because they occupy larger percentages of using RFID than other industries in Taiwan. Thirdly, we use factor analysis to find the successful key performance factors for these four industries. The found key performance factors covers: (1) accurately control inventory, (2) promote the efficiency of information access, (3) promote the accuracy of controlling personals and goods, (4) promote information security, and (5) promote the adaptive capability of employees. Furthermore, we use factor analysis to find the successful key performance factors for manufacturing, medical, and retailing industries, respectively. The found key performance factors for the manufacturing industry contains: (1) accurately control inventory, (2) promote the efficiency of information access, (3) employees can easily attain their target, and (4) promote information security. The found performance factors for the medical industry contains: (1) accurately control inventory, (2) increase working efficiency of employees, and (3) promote the adaptive capability of employees. The found key performance factors for the retailing industry contains: (1) accurately control inventory, (2) promote the techniques and image of an enterprise, (3) promote the adaptive capability of employees, (4) promote operation capability of an enterprise, and (5) promote the adaptive capability of employees to changes. In summary, we found that the three industries have the same one successful key performance factor: accurately control inventory. Also, medical and retailing industries have another one common factor: promote adaptive capability of employees. These empirical results can help enterprises and their departments that want to introduce RFID in the future.
