In response to the dramatically competitive market, computerization has become one of the operation patterns for enterprise to seek optimal efficiency, in order to reduce the working hours, lower costs, and gain more profits. In order to stand firm in the increasingly competitive environment, enterprises have to strive for enhancement of both management and information efficiency to maintain their competitive edge.
This study aims at the introduction of Project Data Management System (PDM) to enterprises to improve data storage and maintenance, and accelerate R&D and design processes. The PDM system enables enterprises to execute project design, production, and management, and at the same time allows the access to construction information, drawing, documents, and specification while facilitating information exchange and control. A database is established via the PDM system for great efficiency in managing construction-related data and drawings within a company in order to enhance the efficiency in construction R&D and design. Moreover, this study takes the construction information possess by Company A (project design, construction and maintenance) as a case study, using process simulation, project design, stress analysis, blueprints, construction & supervision, and bill of material (BOM). Developed by Powertech Information Engineering Corp., the PDM system is then applied to the construction project (Drawing & Document Management System) of Company A regarding the Mass Rapid Transit system in southern Taiwan. It is hoped that the use of the PDM system will enable the Company to operate more efficiently and rapidly, improve its efficiency in design and management, shorten the cycle of developing a construction project, and strengthen the competitiveness of Company A.
