碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 應用中國文學系碩士在職專班 / 96 / During the last days of Quing Dynasty, the Chinese government faced not only serious internal, but also considerable external threats. The Chinese government and the society were getting more and more unstable at the time; thus many educated ones rose up and provided ideas wishing to deliver China out from this turmoil. Businessmen from provinces all over mainland China did the same thing. This thesis discusses the book Qiao’s Grand Courtyard written by Zhu Xiuhai, in which the time is set at the end of Quing Dynasty, when the business concept just sprouted. Following through the whole strategic process operated by the main character Qiao Zhiyong, a mini version of a successful business is shown. The distinguishing business moralities of the Shanxi businessmen like choosing integrity over profit, keeping promises, being righteous can also be concluded from this book, and further visibly present the kind and virtuous spirits of Confucianism.
