Applying CFD to Simulate Bank Effect / 應用計算流力模擬船舶岸壁效應之研究

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 航海科技研究所 / 96 / Abstract
In most cases, there is asymmetric flow around a ship induced by the vicinity of banks, which causes pressure differences between port and starboard sides. As a result, her bow is pushed away from the closest bank. This phenomenon on a sailing vessel is known as bank effect. The main goal of this study lies in the discussion of applying CFD to simulate bank effect. The greatest significance of using CFD is to save the experimental cost and predict the numerical results. With the fast development of the computer in recent decades, great strides have been made in the application of numerical methods to predict ship hydrodynamic forces. The present CFD has achieved a quite high precision to the fluid numerical simulation which can be utilized in each step of ships circumferential flow value computation.
This thesis quotes ship model KCS (KRISO Container Ship, KCS) and uses the CAD computer software to create this ship’s model, set up the numerical tank with FLOW-3D® which is a commercial general purpose CFD package based on the finite-difference method, carry on the numerical method in research of ship hydrodynamic, and use the ship bank effects simulation as the basic research including the ship's speed and bank clearance(or distance to bank, d2b parameter. Finally, show the results which obtained the sway force comparison, the yaw moment comparison, the ship track, the ship wake, and distribution of flow by CFD post-processing, plots, graphs and visualization.
This thesis begins from verify FLOW-3D® theory and consistency of experiment, utilizes economy and repetitiveness of the numerical tank, and probes into the key influence factor of the bank effect thoroughly. As the result of simulation, the bank effect will be more evident when the ship’s speed is faster, the bank clearance is closer, and the traveling is longer, which tallies with the actual situation. To promote understanding of the ship bank by the numerical simulation of CFD and vision analysis, this thesis can be confirmed.
