Estimates of ring increment ratio of otolith for the lanternfish (Benthosema pterotum) in the southwestern coastal waters off Taiwan / 台灣西南沿海產七星魚耳石輪紋成長率之研究

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理研究所 / 96 / This study was attempted to estimate the ring increment ratio of otolith for Benthoscopelus pterotum. The specimens of Benthoscopelus pterotum caught by the commercial trawls were collected at the Chung-Yun port in Linyuan, Kaohsiung between November 7, 2006 and November 20, 2006. A total of 570 individuals were examined in this study.
Meanwhile, in order to determine the fluctuation of marginal increment ratio (MIR) of sagittal otoliths and feeding intensity (FI), the daily variation of ring and stomach content were investigated from the specimens collected by commercial trawlers every 4 hours on November 19, 2006. The sample size was 30 individuals with about 35mm standard length (SL) in body size. The results of this study suggested that a ring is formed approximately 4 days. Feeding behavior showed a 4-day interval pattern with FI between 9.10 and 23.24. Fluctuation of MIR was not significant in daily variation, although the feeding intensity was higher at night.
