Reef landforms classification, zonation and mapping around Liu-Ciu Yu / 琉球嶼礁地形分類、分區與製圖

碩士 / 國立高雄師範大學 / 地理學系 / 96 / Coral reef environment have high biodiversity and tourism potential, the distribution of the lives affected by processes and location. If the reef landform can be well-described, we can refer form to coral growth flourishing area. Coral reef has been generally absent in the development of geomorphology in Taiwan, partially because of the difficulties in the underwater quantification investigations or measurements. With the data of remote sensing, it’s an effective approach to detect reef environment.
In this study, two model of the relationship between the water depth and the digital values of satellite images is built: 1) single linear regression using the first principal compoment, 2) multiple linear regression and two approaches namely 3) supervised classification and 4) supervised classification are also used. Digital values calculated from the satellite images offered by Formosa II will correlate with the four transects of true depth measured with single beam echosounder and GPS. The probable relationship between first principal compoment and multiple linear regression is the last one. It’s reachs 0.90 and the better detect ability can go down to -14m. Supervised classification is also probable than unsupervised classification. Once this relationship is built, it can be applied upon the whole water area around Liu-Ciu Yu. Using this depth and pattern information with the field survey, we propose a reef geomorphologic map within which the landform of coral reef is classified into 4 main types: 1) supertidal reef flat, 2) subtidal reef flat, 3) spurs and grooves, 4) escarpment.
