The aim of this paper is to investigate the environmental effect near Keelung Harbor after offshore mud dumping. The feasibility of mud dumping was discussed by analyzing a series of numerical simulation results of hydrodynamic (HD), water-quality (WQ) and mud-transform (MT) models.
The numerical simulation was established by three different computation domains. The boundary conditions of the largest domain were obtained by harmonic analysis approach. By extracting the results of lager domain, the boundary conditions of smaller domain were obtained and the more accurate simulation was carried out. The calibration of HD model was implemented in the largest domain. The WQ and MT simulation was considered in the smallest domain. The water quality model included DO and BDO. Furthermore, the MT model was simulated the concentration of suspending load after mud dumping.
The conclusion of present work is that mud dumping is not dominated near Keelung Harbor offshore area. Additionally, BOD and DO in the background can return in hours after mud dumping. Finally, this research can be an evaluation criterion for mud dumping near Keelung Harbor.
