Seasonal assemblages of Triglidae, and fishery biology of the dominant species Lepidotrigla hime from surrouding waters of Guei-San Island, northeastern Taiwan were examined based on samples taken from Nov. 2005 to Oct. 2006. In total, 1855 individuals from 8 species were collected. The most dominant species was the L. hime accounting for about 73% of the total catch. The species richness and diversity were higher in summer and fall and lower in other seasons. The cluster analyses have identified 2 major assemblages, including winter-spring and summer-fall assemblages (P＜0.05). These two assemblages all dominated by L. hime and Pterygotrigla hemisticta, and the rare species seem responsible for the differences between assemblages. Besides, formation of these assemblages may be related to the seasonal temperature. The spawning season of L. hime was from March to June；the mature size for both sexes was about 10.2 cm. The condition factor of L. hime was higher after spawning and reached lowest value in April, the pattern opposite to the seasonal changes in percentage of empty stomach. The Hepatosomatic Index of both sexes showed a rapid increase in May, decreased slightly on June, and maintain a relative high level thereafter until winter, while the visceral index showed less seasonal signal. These patterns indicated that energy required during the spawning may came from liver and continue feeding in the season. The formation of annuli for L. hime was found between May and June. The maximum age for both sexes was estimated to be about 7, and the von Bertalanffy growth equations estimated were Lt =19.676(1-e-0.174(t+1.799)) in length (cm) and Wt = 94.20(1- e-0.174(t+1.799) )3.009 in weight (g)；both sexes matured at about 2 to 3 years old, and the population was also dominated by ages 2-3. This result, whether was caused by migration or fishing, was not clear and will need to be further investigated.
