Preliminary study of biodiesel produced from microalgae / 從微藻產製生質柴油之初探

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境化學與生態研究所 / 96 / Abstract

According to recent scientific research, green house effect has resulted in global warming because human activities produce lots of CO2. Using renewable clean fuel, such as biodiesel, not only reduces the concentration of CO2 in atmosphere but also diversifies energy. Microalgae have been regarded as excellent candidates for lipid production. In order to explore new raw material for biodiesel, reduce the production cost and increase production rate, this research is to study the raw oil produced by microalgae (Chlorella protothecoides and Botryococcus braunii) using different culture media. The results show that growth rates of Botryococcus braunii #2441 and #572 are 0.21 d-1 and 0.22 d-1 with Proteose media containing acetate. The lipid contents of Botryococcus braunii #2441 and #572 are 34.8 ± 2.0% and 32.7 ± 1.6%, respectively. The fatty acid methyl ester contents of Botryococcus braunii #2441 and #572 are 82.9 ± 0.3% and 72.2 ± 0.9% in original lipid contents through transesterification. The two-step about the choice of medium and culture way is the best way to make microalgae produce high lipid content in the shortest time.
