Analyzed the Marine Casualty accident distributed around Taiwan coast waters / 臺灣周遭海域船難事故分佈研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境資訊學系 / 96 / The present study used the reported data of ship accident from 2005 to 2007 around the Taiwan coastal area to analyze the ship types of ship accident, the distribution area of ship accident and the causes of ship accident. The reported data of ship accident were taken from data bank of the Assignment Command Center of the Coast Guard Administration, Executive Yuan. Total amounts of one thousand and four hundreds ships occurred accident during the period of 2005-2007. The types of ship accidents were raft, sampans, fishery boat, merchant ship and cargo ship.
Total amounts of 879 fishery boats occurred accident and contributed 62.8% of total ship accidents, ranking the first among different types of ship accidents. The fishery boats accident mostly occurred in the northern, and from Chiayi to Kaohsiung coasts. There were 294 rafts occurred accident and accounted for 21% of total ship accidents, ranking the second among different types of ship accidents. The rafts accident primarily occurred within three miles of the Yunlin , Chiayi and Tainan coasts because of the usage of rafts by the aquaculture farms. There were 130 cargo ships occurred accident and accounted for 9.3% of total ship accidents, ranking the third among different types of ship accidents.
The causes of ship accident can be divided into six kinds: collision; grounding; sunk; engine breakdown; fired; and missing. The percentage of engine breakdown was the highest among the causes and accounted for 68.4% of all ship accidents, and mostly occurred in the southern coast of Taiwan. The grounding ranked the second among the causes and contributed 9.3% of all ship accidents, and mostly occurred inshore. The collision and fired were the third and fourth among the causes and accounted for 9.1% and 7.1% of all ship accidents, respectively. The ship collision often occurred in the commercial harbor and during the sailing. The fired accident mostly happened in harbors of the southern Taiwan..
