Liability system of oil pollution from ships / 船舶油污染責任制度探討

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 96 / Oil began to replace coal as main energy early in the last century, from then on, large amount of oil has being transported by sea from oil exporting countries to oil importing countries, which results in pollution damage when oil spill incidents take place. As the rapid development of the carriage of the carriage of oil by sea, the serious damage of oil pollution from ships pushed international community to formulate the compensation law of oil pollution damage from ships.
Oil pollution usually causes disaster to the environment. The concept of environmental protection has been increasingly emphasized in recent years, so there are many international conventions, which impose on the shipowners strict liability. Also, some international conventions require the shipowners to provide financial security or effect suitable liability insurance. This study also discuss the Protection and Indemnity Clubs usually play an important role in oil pollution accidents.
