碩士 / 東吳大學 / 中國文學系 / 96 / This dissertation, taking poetry as refined literature and a reflection of times and self-expression, explores the development of classical poems in modern times. The chapters are as follows.
  The First Chapter is an introduction, clarifying the research motivation and methodology and then a literature review to show the scope of research and adopted citations. The content includes versions of authors’ collections of poems, discussions about poems and verses and articles from notebooks.
  In the Second Chapter, the origin of poetry is regarded as the textual focus. It is divided into the three sections – the environment of birth, the family history and origin, and the master-and-disciple educational system. The first section explores geographical location and cultural background; the second one examines the three generations – great grandfather, grandfather and father; the third one refers to proceeding with exploring people who mention Yu-shu Li’s articles. Thus the author’s background in poetry can be seen.
  The Third Chapter employs the form of poetry to observe the art of Yu-shu Li’s classical-style poetry and modern-style poetry. The first section is about classical-style poetry, focusing on rules governing rhythm of words and rhyme at the end of a line of poetry in seven-character poems. The rhyme lasts from the beginning to the end in flat rhyme, Bo Liang Style (rhyme in every sentence), odd-number sentence, and long and short sentences are concerned. The second section is about modern-style poetry. Phenomenon and achievement of selection of precise words are explored with regard to practice. Next, the skill of composing sentences is employed to discuss linking between verses and meanings. Lastly, the further application of function words is conferred by using density of verses.
  The Fourth Chapter directly aims at the content of the poem for discussion. In the first section, rhapsodies (fu), comparison (bi), and moods (sing) should be first ensured to bring into full play through function of image. Further, the two directions of “image” and “image” are used. The former is to take birds and flowers to discuss the author’s features of expressing meaning whereas the latter is to realize his application of image through nostalgia, writing style, verbal prediction, etc. In the second section, the content of the poem is discussed. First, all the author’s stages of career are used to understand the relationship between the way of expression and history. Next, according to the use of his Buddhist vocabulary, how creative thinking is formed is also explored.
  The Fifth Chapter characterizes Yu-shu Li’s poetry style. Form and content are the major aspects for discussion. The first section is to differentiate characteristics of style according to difference of comparisons (bi) and moods (sing) techniques in poetry of Tang Dynasty and that of Song poetry. In the second section, how Yu-shu Li’s poetry is influenced by Han Wei School of Poetry and Tong Guang School of Poetry can be observed. In the third section, the comments made in modern times are used to examine Yu-shu Li’s style of poetry.
  From the above discussion, this dissertation can outline complete representation of Yu-shu Li’s poems and can bring a new angle of observation on modern literature development.
