Social Carrying Capacity at Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area: A Visual Approach to Recreation Boats / 日月潭國家風景區社會心理承載量之研究-以遊艇視覺模擬為例

碩士 / 世新大學 / 觀光學研究所(含碩專班) / 96 / The purpose of this study is to survey visitors’ social carrying capacity (SCC) at Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area. The study adopted a visual approach simulating various settings with different numbers of recreation boats, and asked visitors to report their acceptable level for each setting. In addition, the study also tested the effects of “the same view point to see different water bodies” and “different view points to see the same water body” on visitors’ social carrying capacity.
This study employed convenient sampling method. To test the effect of “the same view point to see different water bodies” on visitors’ SCC, visitors at Shuei-She Wharf were asked to report their acceptable levels for two sets of photographs with Sun Lake and Moon Lake as background. To test the effect of “different view points to see the same water body” on visitors’ SCC, visitors at Yi-Da-Shao Wharf were asked to report their acceptable levels for two sets of photographs with visitors watching various numbers of boats in the same water body from different view points. A total 400 copies of questionnaires were collected and all available. The study results indicate:

1. The test results of the effect of “the same view point to see different water bodies” on visitors’ SCC indicate visitors’ acceptable levels of Moon Lake are significantly lower that of Sun Lake. The maximum number of recreation boats at one time (BAOT) in Sun Lake is 11~12, and that in Moon Lake is 10.
2. The test results of the effect of “different view points to see the same water body” on visitors’ SCC indicate visitors’ acceptable levels of Yi-Da-Shao Wharf are significantly lower than that of Shuei-She Wharf, due to the artificial facilities. The maximum number of recreational boats at one time in Shuei-She Wharf is 11~12, and the Yi-Da-Shao Wharf is 8.
3. The study results also indicate that the effect of “close shot” on visitors’ SCC is significantly higher than that of “medium shot”.
4. To sum up, the factors which affect visitors’ social carrying capacity should include: image of water body, artificial facilities, close shot, and sailing route of recreational boats.

According to the study results, it is suggested that the resource managers should integrate various factors affecting visitors’ SCC, such as the corresponding position between scenery observatory, surrounding artificial facilities, and the sailing route of recreational boats. Several management strategies also suggested to maintain setting quality in Sun-Moon Lake National Scenic Area.
