The Feasibility Study of Extended Range Anti-Submarine Torpedo (ERAST) / 攻潛魚雷增程構型可行性評估研究

碩士 / 國防大學理工學院 / 兵器系統工程碩士班 / 97 / This research is focused on study of the critical technologies and operation effectiveness of a new concept of anti-submarine weapon system, the Extended Range Anti-Submarine Torpedo (ERAST), as well as its feasibility. In this research, the operation requirements are captured by conducting the interviews with the experts of naval weapon system. Then the System Engineering Procedure (SEP) combined with constrains, included international relations, military development capabilities, current weapon systems, and the torpedo development trend … etc, of Taiwan , are applied to develop the embedded system architecture of ERAST. The system architecture combined two well developed weapon systems, by clamped MK-46 torpedo into Hsiung Feng II missile(HF II). Following the comparison of the development capabilities with Chung Sheng Institute of Technology (CSIST), this research concluded that critical technology of developing ERAST in Taiwan is the design and production of drag chute. However, this technology can be acquired from the local industries. This research also adopted the operational effectiveness evaluation model developed by Weapon System Effectiveness Industry Advisory Committee (WSEIAC) of the USA , to calculate operational effectiveness of ERAST. The results shows that when combats to Kilo Class submarine, the ERAST obviously get much higher operational effectiveness than the current torpedo weapon system of Perry Class or Knox Class warship. Furthermore, this research not only confirmed the feasibility of development of ERAST in Taiwan , once be deployed it will efficiently decrease the vulnerability of the warships with much higher.
