碩士 / 輔仁大學 / 經濟學研究所 / 97 / This dissertation provides comparisons of optimal location, output and social welfare under spatial discriminatory pricing with that of mill pricing. Herein transportation costs are assumed to be asymmetric whereby consumers can choose their purchase strategy. The conclusions are as follows: (1) [Model 1] only by adding the assumption of transportation asymmetry to the conventional literature, we find that the optimal location is still located at the large market. Both the output and welfare under mill pricing are greater than that of under discriminatory pricing. (2) [Model 2] after casting the assumption of consumer purchase behavior with a free style into the model, the optimal location does not be changed, which is the same as that of Model 1. However, consumer surplus, output and social welfare all increase. This is a novel finding of the dissertation. The implication is that the authorities should not regulate firms’ pricing strategies of firms in strict way.
