The objective of which is to be able to aptly reflect opportunities, enhance efficiency, and reduce collaboration costs within the market. Well known cases of collaborative commerce include the collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment between Wal-Mart and product manufacturer P&G, which takes advantage of collaborative production and marketing through information sharing and mutual trust between businesses. The Japanese automobile company Toyota has become the most profitable car manufacturer after adopting the model of collaborative commerce and knowledge sharing with its suppliers. These cases clearly demonstrate that collaborative commerce will be the up and coming trend in the administration and management of industries.
Currently a lot of local industries, such as consumer electronics, feel threatened by the swift change brought about by global division of labor. They begin to express the need of collaboration between businesses, hoping that the information links between value chain activities can achieve process integration, improve efficiency, and span the boundary between businesses and countries.
However, collaborative commerce at the same time demands set-up costs and
designated personnel. With limited internal resources, how should businesses make their decision?
The study explores the factors to be taken into consideration of joining collaborative commerce with clients from the perspective of suppliers. To begin with, justified explanation and predication will be deducted from theory and empirical study follows. The strong and weak stances in relationships with clients are considered when discussing factors influencing the decision to participate in collaborative commerce. The results have managerial implication for the decision-making. Finally, the study provides suggestions for the relatively weaker participants
