碩士 / 高雄醫學大學 / 心理學研究所 / 97 / Purpose:This study explores the relationships among Alzheimer’s behavior and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) caregiver’s quality of life (QOL) and social support, in order to realize the influence of BPSD and the moderating effect of caregiver’s social support.
Methods: This research is a cross-sectional study. The multiple standardized instruments with established reliability and validity are used to measure the variables of this study. The independent variable is measured with the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), which understand the frequency and serevity of patients’ BPSD. Furthermore, the moderator variable is measured with the social support scale, while the dependent variable is measured with the WHOQOL— BREF. Finally, the data is analyzed by using SPSS and LISREL.
Results:The sample consisted of 96 family caregivers of Alzheimer patients. The patient’s BPSD is significantly negative to the QOL of Alzheimers’ caregivers. The forecast is approximately 17%. The social support of caregivers is significantly positive to QOL. Here the forecast is about 4%. However, moderating effect does not exist between caregivers’QOL and patients’BPSD.
Conclusion:The BPSD of Alzheimer influences the caregivers’QOL. Appetite、Dysphoria、Hallucination、Euphoria、Apathy、Disinhibition and Irritability are included particularly. Moreover, findings indicate that life quality can be improved by social support. The older caregivers and the people living together should be given more clinical support.
