碩士 / 開南大學 / 物流與航運管理學系 / 97 / The aim of this research is to examine the function of Transport Management System (TMS) used by the logistics service providers in Taiwan from the viewpoints of both service quality and cost. The questions have been designed and several senior managers are interviewed to obtain in depth knowledge of the performance of the transport management system. The research findings reveal that most of logistics operators have modified the system based on their demand. This research further examines the factors pushing logistics operators to modify the transport management system. Generally speaking, there are direct factors and the in-direct ones.
The major function of TMS is provide integrated IT solution of vehicle dispatch, job assignment for the vehicles and accounting service. There are several benefits could be enjoyed, the first is the effective and efficient information exchange between the shipper, consignee and logistics operator. The second is to improve the service quality of delivery and lower the overall cost effectively. If the logistics operator could make best use of the TMS, then both the logistics operators and their customers could enjoy the benefits of TMS and achieved the goal of ‘win-win’ strategy.
