A Case Study of Strategic Alliance in Taiwan’s Garment Industry from the Perspective of Internationalization / 從國際化觀點探討傳統產業之策略聯盟關係—以台灣海外製衣廠股份有限公司為例

碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 國際事務研究所碩士班 / 97 / Internationalization as the trend of one century, if the traditional industry of Taiwan would like to see a significant breakthrough, it should be taken into serious consideration for continuous development and further survival in the future. This research examines the textile garment industry which is faced with internal management factors and external pressure such as stringent competition challenges. With the rapid changes in the domestic and international economic situation, how to adjust the industry policies, and how to combine the resources and advantages and complement with other producers or partners in the industry chain by forming strategic alliances to reach a better integration and then improve the whole competitiveness of textile garment industry. All these questions are studied in this research.
This research conducts a case study by looking into “OEMEC GARMENT MFG. CO., LTD.” in Taiwan. The research takes a qualitative approach, with the methodology based on literature reviews and in-depth interviews. Key factors for choosing strategic partners and the interactions between each other are investigated while their internationalization involvement is also analyzed. Further, the analysis attempts to sum up the more effective ways for strategic alliance in Taiwan’s textile garment industry.
Moreover, this research finds out that OEM still serves as a main partnership role in Taiwan’s traditional industries in the international business community. Garment manufacturers which are still in the downstream of the industry need to expand management through the internationalization particularly, and seek to accord with the production base of the cost by transferring the funds or technology. In addition, profits are still low because of the rising manufacturing cost. Consequently, it could affect the profits of the studied case directly whether the stability of the relationship among cooperative partners could be maintained or whether the strategic partnership could create a certain alliance synergy. And the relationship between the studied case and its alliance partners is mainly built upon their long-term mutual trust and accumulated collaborative experiences. For this reason, the case company and its suppliers, traders and customers are strategically linked in alliances that appear to be closely interdependent with each other.
