碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 交通管理學系碩博士班 / 97 / This study aims to evaluate the effects of core competency and training on job performance in liner shipping. Based on factor analysis, four core competencies are identified, namely, interpersonal competency, international trade and logistic competencies, foreign language and shipping knowledge competencies, and managerial competency. Training can be divided into three factors, including reaction, learning and behavior dimensions, whereas job performance can be categorized into contextual performance and task performance.
In addition, a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach was employed to test the research hypotheses. Results indicated that training had a positive effect on core competency, whereas core competency had a positive influence on job performance. However, the impact of training on job performance was not supported in this study. Practical implications of the research findings on improving human resource management are discussed in this research.
