Comparative Research of Chain Drugstore Operation in Taiwan and Mainland China—Citing the Shanghai Case-study Chain Drugstore as Example / 台灣與大陸地區連鎖藥局經營之比較---以上海個案連鎖藥局為例

碩士 / 國立彰化師範大學 / 企業管理學系國際企業經營管理 / 97 / Thanks to a decade of evolutionary development, the retail medicine business in Taiwan has transformed into a diverse management mode. Chain and combination operation have gradually been placed in the mainstream. Now that Mainland China has already held membership in WTO, what had been one
of the closed-door industries in the past has now progressively opened its gate
to the world. As far as those who take an interest in Taiwanese businessmen are concerned, few took the chance to enter the industry. Moreover, such research regarding the retail medicine business remains scarce in Mainland China.
Through the case study of a single company entering the Chinese market, the paper attempts to provide a reference for Taiwanese businessmen aiming at the Mainland’s retail medicine market.

The subject of the research is the retail medicine business in Taiwan. Through interviewing four case-study companies’ senior supervisors, the paper aims to illustrate the industrial development and characteristics of the retail medicine business in both Taiwan and the Mainland. In addition, the paper attempts to explore the differences between value chain and intangible assets from the
aspect of industry characteristics and the influence of cross-strait medicine regulations. The conclusions are as follows:

1. Taking the medicine regulations into consideration, what operation strategy is best recommended for the Taiwanese retail medicine business to adopt when entering the Chinese market?

2. The operation trend of Taiwanese drugstores is chain operation, among which the most celebrated remains to be cosmeceutical chain stores. Does such chain operation have a bright future in the Mainland?
3. Degree of readiness regarding intangible assets: Taking the Taiwan experience as an example to compare the difference between Taiwan and the Mainland in order to prevent potential risks that might be encountered when entering the Chinese market.
