碩士 / 國立東華大學 / 海洋生物多樣性及演化研究所 / 97 / The Trachichthyidae are indicative fishes of researches on deep-sea biology, ecology and fisheries. Limited knowledge was obtained by local studies. Using the deep-sea beam trawl, species diversity of Trachichthyidae and life history traits of size composition, reproduction, depth distribution, age and growth of the co-dominant species were comparatively studied in areas of <350 m in SW and <600 m in NE waters off Taiwan.
At least three genera and seven species of Trachichthyidae were recorded in Taiwan, namely the Gephyroberyx darwinii, Hoplostethus crassispinus, H. japonicus, H. melanopus and Paratrachichthys sajademalensis from both waters, and P. prosthemius and H. mediterraneus from NE water. Hoplostethus crassispinus was the co-dominant species, accounting to 56.2 % (SW) and 48.6 % (NE) of the total composition respectively. The secondary dominance was 36.2 % of H. melanopus (SW) and 27.6 % of P. sajademalensis (NE). Variations on species diversity were speculated to be attributed by range differences in both trawling depth and inhibiting depths of fish between waters.
Mean standard lengths (± standard deviation) of the co-dominant H. crassispinus were different between waters, which lengths of 48±16.59 mm in SW were significantly smaller than 81±19.02 mm in NE. Length-weight relationships of the fish did not differ between waters. Bigger individuals distributed deeper in SW water, although no distinct differences in depth distribution of the fish by both seasons and genders were found. Sex ratios were predominated to male in SW and female in NE. Length at sexual maturity of the fish were larger in SW (98.00 mm of female and 92.00 mm male) than in NE (79.65 mm of female and 79.85 mm male). Spawning seasons were between December and next March for both waters. Matured individuals of SW distributed water depths of >250 m. Otolith radii of the fish were regressed significantly with fish lengths and hyaline zones in otolith were formed annually in October to November for both waters. Age determination of the fish was <11 yr. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters of the fish were 283.38 mm (L∞) and 0.04 yr-1 (K) for SW, 296.85 mm and 0.05 yr-1 for NE. In general, the H. crassispinus was a small to moderate sized deep-sea fish of long life period, late maturation and slow growing.
