The Multiple Interpretations of the Relationship between Tong Lee's Novel The Conductor of Trifoliate Jewelvine Express and His Mind's Journey / 李潼小說《魚藤號列車長》與生命行旅的多重詮釋

This paper seeks to focus on his last novel, "The Conductor of Trifoliate Jewelvine Express," which was written in 2004. By adopting a psychobiographical viewpoint, this paper explores the mental picture presented in the text by Mr. Tong. The seven chapters of the present paper will be developed as follows according to the sequence of the discussion.
 
  Chapter 1 provides the definition of the research scope. It explores Mr. Tong''s literary creations and engages in a literature review of recent studies relevant to "The Conductor of Trifoliate Jewelvine Express."
 
  Chapter 2 describes a viewpoint that focuses on the life history and travel experiences of the author and the hero . In this chapter, the perspective of psychobiography is adopted to explore the organic interrelation between the author''s life experience and the text.
 
  Chapter 3 offers an on-site investigation of the landscape described in the text. The overall view of the site, Liyutan Village, Sanyi Township, Miaoli County, will be assessed to explore the relationship that exists between the text and the landscape described therein. This chapter will also interpret the message the author intended to deliver.
 
  Chapter 4 describes the specific analysis of the characterization in the novel, and it provides a conclusion regarding the view and aesthetic effect of Tong Lee''s narration.
 
  Chapter 5 conducts an exploration of the near-death image in the novel, analyzing the interpretations of the relevant messages given in the course of the author''s writing.
 
  Chapter 6 explores the novel''s conclusion.Because "The Conductor of Trifoliate Jewelvine Express" is an "unfinished" work, this chapter posits a specific development in behalf of the novel''s conclusion and its key subject based on the multiple interpretations of the novel and the author conducted in chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5.
 
  Chapter 7 provides the conclusion.
 
  By integrating the research conducted into the text with fieldwork and additional external research in the hope of establishing two perspectives of the author as well as the reader and applying relevant research views, this paper attempts to report a blended insight, informed by the width and depth of Tong Lee''s "The Conductor of Trifoliate Jewelvine Express."
