Age and growth of the bombay-duck (Harpadon microchir) in the waters off southwestern Taiwan / 台灣西南海域產小鰭鐮齒魚之年齡成長研究

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理研究所 / 97 / The age and growth of the Synodontidae Harpadon microchir, specimens collected from the waters off southwestern Taiwan, during September 2007 to September 2008 were examined in this study. Age was estimated by using sagittae otolith. Significant difference was not found on the relationship between body weight (BW) and fork length (FL) for sexes, therefore the data was combined:W = 2×10-7FL3.5259 (n = 513, r2 = 0.98).
The relationship between fork length (FL) and otolith radius (OR) was estimated to be FL = 246.09 OR-75.056 (n = 236, r2 = 0.88, p<0.05) for female, and FL = 210.69 OR-36.373 (n = 168, r2 = 0.89, p<0.05) for male. Based on the results of this study, the periodical rings of otolith should not be a daily increment. An existing hypothesis of the ring marks formed once a week. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L∞ = 789.4mm, k = 0.111/yr, to = 0.4267/yr for female;L∞ = 622.4mm, k = 0.143/yr, to = 0.3901/yr for male.
