The Installation of Sewer Pipe Lines using Jacking Pipe Methods in Taiwan Gravelly Soils / 台灣地區卵礫石層污水下水道管推進工法之施工

碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 土木工程系所 / 97 / The objective of the study is to investigate the encountered problems and associated remediation for the installation of jacking pipes within the gravelly soils in Taiwan. The study areas included the major cities along the west coast sedimentation plain and Hwa-Tung village. On-site interview with the on-site engineering directors to collect construction details for ten pipe jacking projects within gravelly soils were conducted. The collection information was further analyzed and evaluated. The installation methods, jacking machine specifications, encountered problems and remediation procedure were also investigated. Based upon the analyses, practical suggestions for installation and selection of jacking pipe equipments are also recommended to the engineers for the future pipe jacking projects in gravelly soils.
The depth of subsurface investigation should be minimum 3 meters below the deepest elevation of the jacking pipes. A test pit with 1 to 2 meters in width and 2 to 3 meter in depth should be excavated to explore the subsurface condition of the project site. 40%, 20%, and less than 20% opening at cutter head is recommended for pipe jacking machine equal or over 500 mm, 400 mm, and 300 mm, in diameter, respectively. It is recommended that a minimum of 500 mm pipe jacking machine should be used as encountered gravelly soil in Taiwan. Some modifications were necessary for the imported pipe jacking equipments for use in Taiwan gravelly soils. 40% cutter head opening was commonly used for earth-pressure balance drilling machine. 15% to 40% opening was typically used for Soil-slurry balance jacking machine. A minimum of 12,000 kg/cm2 jacking pressure should be used as encountered gravelly soils. When encountered silty and sandy soils, it is recommended to increase drilling pressure, modify the compound of slurry fluid, and reinforce the drainage pipes to eliminate construction problems.
