Comparison of Migration Patterns in the Black-faced Bunting at different Elevations / 不同海拔黑臉鵐遷移模式之比較

碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 野生動物保育研究所 / 97 / Black-faced Bunting (Emberiza spodocephala) were mist-netted, banded and with feathers collected at Zhiben of Taitung County, Laobi of Pingtung County, Nanshan of Yilan County and Wuling Farm of Taichung County from February 2008 to March 2008 and November 2008 to March 2009, respectively. Using stable hydrogen isotope ratios of feathers (δDf), we examined the sources of breeding latitude and migration patterns. Result revealed that Black-faced Bunting’s δDf was significantly different among three subspecies, and reflecting their breeding latitude distributions. By banding record, autumn migration peak at Laobi and Wuling Farm lasted for 15 days, and more than 70% individuals were recorded in this period. No yearly differences were found for the δDf values of six recaptured birds. δDf in the mid-elevation Wuling Farm was heavier than that of low-elevation Laobi, but δDf was insignificantly correlated with elevation for wintering birds. Buntings mostly arrived in November-December at Wuling, with significant lighter δDf in November; namely, those living in the higher latitude arrived first. It was suggested that buntings wintering at the study areas were largely from southern breeding zone, based on a 95% confidence interval of δDf. Since Taiwan is located at southern wintering ground for the buntings, Black-face Bunting was inferred to apply a so-called chain migration pattern.
