碩士 / 國立臺灣師範大學 / 設計研究所 / 97 / Poster art flourished with the rise of Art Nouveau style. (1890~1914 A.D.) As a result, this was the time the society engulfed by a frenzy over poster collection.
However, the popularity of poster art did not reach its’ peak until the start of pop art period (Approximately 1960 A.D.). During this revolutionary time in poster design, these artists experiment with forms, colors, and subject matters to convey their messages. These techniques are ranging from a well established technique such as collage, to the more recently developed technique with electronic enhanced fusion of imageries; the hand drawn elements have become secondary in importance.
Toward the end of the Twentieth Century, due to the rapid development of computer and internet applications, the demand in poster printing has become ever more popular in various sectors of society. Therefore, this causes a surge in demand for graphic design services. On the other side of the world, in Asia, the development of economy arouses people to realize the importance of their own traditions, when western trend became not so popular to be followed. As a result, the growing numbers of people are strived to preserve tradition.
The objective of this research is to implement modern graphic design theories and computer design programs. The goal is aimed at composing effective images taken from the traditional Taiwanese architecture decorations. The expected outcomes are mixing the modern with the traditional visual elements in the design. The series of posters are an attempt to heighten the viewers’ awareness about the urgency of protecting Taiwan’s traditional architecture.
