The study of relationship between ambient air quality and harbor operation-Emissions of NOx and SOx from ships in the port of Keelung / 港口營運與周邊環境空氣品質關係之研究-基隆港在港商船NOx及SOx之排放

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境資訊學系 / 97 / The main purpose of the paper is to analyze the emissions of
exhaust gases from ships during maritime traffic and volumes of
cargoes handling of ships in harbors affects the air quality of
surrounding areas of the Port of Keelung. The study is based upon
the average daily data( from the year 1999 to2007) from Keelung
Ren-Ai Automatic air quality station of The Department of the
Environmental Protection and Environment Quality Monitoring
Center of the Port of Keelung , and the characteristics of the ships
being analyzed from maritime database provided by the Keelung
Port Information Center.
Comparing with emissions from ships and the volumes of
cargoes handling of ships in the port, we found that the relevance
between arrival times of ships and gross tonnages of the vessels is
the highest, the second, tons of cargoes handling of ships in the
harbor. In addition, in accordance with the modes of operation,
ships incoming and outgoing of the port occupied 13%, 87%
cargoes handling of ships in the harbor. Further, basing on the
distinction between the types of ships, container vessels accounted
for 48.1%, 24.4% miscellaneous cargo ships, 17.3% bulk carriers,
6.1% oil tankers, 4.1% other kinds of vessels. And results show that
ships coming and leaving of the port from 6 to 8 a.m. of the day is
the most frequent. And emissions from ships staying in the port
between 16 and 22 p.m. is the strongest. Thus, those period of time
is the most critical impact for the surrounding environment of the
port.
Comparison of the two monitoring emission stations, owing to
factors and different sources of emissions , the distance , the little
relevant information between both stations and the time gap, there
is little help for analyzing the impact for the surrounding
environment form emissions . Analysis shows that the impact for
IV
the surrounding environment from the emissions of motorcycles
and vehicles, power plants or shipyard of urban area is greater than
that of ships emissions in the port. In order to simplify the
monitoring ship’s emissions, we make use of the data citing
calculation formula of vessels gross tonnages to simplify the
calculation of the emissions from the ships, and 27,495 of Keelung
Port incoming vessels’ data in 9 years is used in the paper. The
study may be an available reference for follow-up researchers.
Comparing with the statistics of the ships emission in the
Keelung Port and overall emissions of Keelung City in the paper
shows that the NOx for the impact of the environment takes higher
ratio. And SOx from ship emissions accounts for relatively lower
component. Though, It shows, from the long term observation, the
emissions is decreasing and its impact to the air quality of the
environment is going down, still we should not neglect it and need
long-term concerns.
Issues proposed in this paper can effectively reduce emissions
from ships and impact for the surrounding environment of the port
operation. Those may be useful references for the related units
and follow-up researchers.
