A Study of bathymetry and bottom character at Dong-Sha Atoll using remote sensing data / 遙測資料在海底地形與底質測繪之應用—以東沙環礁為例

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境資訊學系 / 97 / In 2007, the water depth of Dongsha Atoll was measured in this study. The results showed that areas with the depth less than 3m mostly located in the western Dongsha Atoll and inshore water of Dongsha Island. In the middle area of Dongsha Atoll, the water depth might be deeper than 14m. The average water depth, measured in 2008 by the Marine National Park Headquarters (MNPH), was 1.74m shallower than this study’s depth in the inshore water of Dongsha Island and the middle area of the western Dongsha Atoll. Perhaps, it resulted from the sand drift or the water current, which happened after the construction of Dongsha Harbor. The total average of water depth difference between MNPH’s and this study’s data is about -0.67m. Maybe, this difference was caused by the influence of typhoon attacks in 2008. The measurement location at reef area might also result in the depth difference.
The analysis result from the classified FORMOSAT-2 images and environmental and flora survey shows that most corals are found in the inner and the outside boundary of Dongsha Atoll. In 2004 and 2008, the corals and coral remains were found in the outside boundary of the atoll and the southwestern area of the atoll. In the same years, sea grasses were found in the adjacent water of Dongsha Island and the inner atoll. The spread of corals and sea grasses in 2008 seemed to be wider than it in 2004. It might indicate the good effect of the environmental protect and the ecological resource conservation.
