碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 97 / To be in face of the dynamic environment, firms in maritime industry need to be more sensitive and improve their capability to response quickly. The purpose of this article tries to discuss the relationships among trust, knowledge sharing, capability, innovation and performance in maritime alliances. A total of 780 questionnaires were sent to the managers of organizations in Taiwan maritime industry, including port authorities, shipping companies, agents, forwarders, and others. 287 responses were received, and 249 were found to be valid for a usable response rate of 31.92%.
Using exploratory factor analysis, the dimensions of each latent variables were extracted as follow: two dimensions of trust are character-based trust and competence-based trust; two dimensions of knowledge sharing are inter-strategy and intra-strategy; two dimensions of capability are leadership and business acumen and communication; three dimensions of innovation are inter factors, governmental support and environmental uncertainty; and two dimensions of performance are quality of service and financial performance. By using structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis, the results of the hypothesis testing shows that trust has positive effects to knowledge sharing, knowledge sharing has positive effects to capability and innovation, and performance is positive effected from capability.
Based on the collected data and analyzed, we concluded that in order to increase the performance of maritime alliances, knowledge sharing plays an important role. If the businesses trust each other in maritime alliances, it would promote knowledge sharing and bring up their capability, and impel and execute their innovation activities can directly increase performance.
