Identifying the Critical Factors Influencing the Introduction of Container Number Recognition System in Port Terminals / 貨櫃碼頭閘口作業自動化之研究-以櫃號辨識系統為例

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 97 / As a result of vessel enlargement, the container traffics have increased dramatically at terminals. The huge flows of trucks and containers will cause traffic jam if the processing efficiency at the gate is not upgraded. Therefore, developing gate automatic systems to recognize container numbers and license plates of trucks are predominant trend of current container terminals. However, there are several systems such as radio frequency identification (RFID) and optical character recognition (OCR) could be used for gate automation. How to choose a suitable one is an important planning problem of terminal operators. This research aims to identify the critical determinants that influence terminal operators while choosing the gate automation systems. An objective structure was hierarchically constructed by factor analysis to help making decisions of choosing gate automation systems. An empirical study based on a dedicated terminal at Keelung was conducted with alternatives of RFID and OCR. The fuzzy analytic hierarchy process was applied to calculate the relative weights of criteria and alternatives. The result shows that the RFID system was the suitable system for the terminal.
