Using supply chain application to analyze Taiwan forwarding industry's multiple country consolidation / 台灣海運承攬運送業之多國併裝效益--以供應鏈觀點分析

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 97 / The operation procedure of Multi-Country Consolidation (MCC) is to collect less than container-load (LCL) cargoes from different countries, to consolidate them into containers in the hub port, and to transport the containers to their destinations. This research makes an economic efficiency analysis of Taiwan freight forwarding industry's multiple country consolidation through the Supply Chain Perspective.

According to the result of Literature Reviews and in-depth interviews, the 15 selection criteria were categorized into four dimensions, which are System and Transport dimension, cost related dimension, Space and efficiency of operations dimension, and Customs services related dimension. By applying supply chain management observation and in-depth interviews with industry experts, this research discovers Taiwan ocean freight forwards’ economic benefits resulting from Multi-Country Consolidation.

In the Commercial Flow aspect, MCC will lead to "Expanded services scope, Changed Customers equity and Increased the diversification of trade risk ". In the Personnel Flow, MCC will lead to "Improved professional knowledge as well as more carefully and stringent work behavior". In the Logistics Flow aspect, MCC will lead to "More rapid delivery of goods and provide further customization services.” Lastly, in the Payment Flow and Information Flow aspect, MCC will lead to "Reduced transport costs and the usage number of containers" and " Reduced transparency and control over the movement of goods” and “Increased the acceleration of information systems integration ". Overall, MCC may lead to an "increase in national port competitivenes ".

Finally, the professional expert were invited to give future references and advises by focusing on the four dimensions. Although this study was not Statistically supported, this research provides a useful approach for ocean freight forwards to examine their operation strategies.
