A Study on The job choice of navigational students in Taiwan / 航海相關科系學生上船意願之探討

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 商船學系所 / 97 / Taiwan is an island country; the shipping industry has always played an important economic lifeline of Taiwan. With economic growth, global competition, taking the cost of shipping into account and hiring a large number of cheaper foreign crews to replace the crew of the nationality. The Phenomena caused the crew job insecurity, many officers have left.
For probing into the project of domestic deck officer shortfall and demand imbalance, this study aims to understand what the background factors of maritime students’ willingness of choosing occupation on board are? And adding the welfare of the incentive policies of shipping companies and the government, verifies the impact of sailing on board influenced by those factors? Firstly, we construct the questionnaire for the maritime students, and use item analysis and factor analysis to sort out and reduce the items of questionnaire. After that, using binary Logit Model which comprises the chosen factors and the alternative-specific socioeconomic variables establishs a job choice behavior model of maritime students.
This study proceeds to analyze the correlation between the factors and the willingness of working onboard. The results show that these maritime students have the revealed preference to seafaring in the future. Moreover, the four factors extracted from the exterior influencing items in the analysis model- “welfare and protection needs for crew”, “self actualization needs”, “property of seafaring” and “navigational competence” were positively relative with the willingness of working onboard.
