碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 工程科學及海洋工程學研究所 / 97 / The focus of this research is put on the resistance calculation of a wave piercing catamaran(WPC) by using the method of the computational fluid dynamics to calculate the flow field. The computational process is based on the finite volume method and the structural grid is adopted to discretize the computational domain, so that the calculation of the viscous flow around the twin-hull with free-surface effect in steady state can be carried out.
Before the resistance calculation of the wave piercing catamaran, the results from the Wigley catamaran model tests by Insel and Molland are used to validate the numerical results from our CFD method. The resistances calculated by the wave piercing catamarans at different speeds are then compared with those resulted from the ship model tests carried out at NTU towing tank. There by, the distance between the twin hulls of the WPC for examining the influence of the distance between the twin hulls on the variation of the resistance and distance.
Through comparison of calculation results and experimental results, it reveals that the trends formed by most calculations are well consistent with those formed by experimental results while the corresponding numerical deviations still appear an amount of about 10% within acceptable ranges.
