Recently, as a result of slowdown in regional economic growth, Kaohsiung port is facing insufficient demand of container shipping, capacity surplus in general container terminal and deficit of deep-water berths … etc., it has been become a very critical issue for container shipping related industrials as well as the authorities here in Kaohsiung to cope with challenge of the swift shipping development in the world. Especially while facing release of limitation of Cross-strait direct links and situation of getting more competitiveness to shipping market in the eastern Asia region.
The purpose of this research is to explore key impact factors from aspect of sustainable development for container terminal operators in Kaohsiung port and realize current situation and direction of important strategies we shall have in the future. Meanwhile, study in detail about how to upgrade advantage of competition to the strategy of sustainable development for container terminal operators with its contribution and urge and also relationship in between in order to work out major strategy of sustainable development in Kaohsiung port.
The results showed that factor of Free Trade Port Zone is the most important one to both contribution and urge in strategy of the sustainable development for container terminal operators in Kaohsiung port, and next is factor of Self-Managed/Operated, then factor of Implement of Port Logistics and factor of Communication Between The Authorities and Shipping Related Industrial; and factor of Free Trade Port Zone, Self-Managed/Operated and Implement of Port Logistics are all under the objective of Self-Managed in Port Logistics. We also found out factor of Trend of Cross-Sectors and Prosperous Together with Local are not significant to both contribution and urge; and other than that, the balance are all important to both contribution and urge in strategy of the sustainable development for container terminal operators in Kaohsiung port.
