碩士 / 東吳大學 / 企業管理學系 / 97 / This study investigates how firm characteristics affect the choice between acquisition and greenfield in foreign subsidiaries. Firm characteristics include the relative size of investment, multinational experience, technological intensity, marketing intensity, human resources endowment and parent performance. This sample covers the events of foreign direct investment recorded in Taiwan Economic Journal(TEJ)from 1988 to 2008. All hypotheses are tested using binomial logistic regressions.
Empirical results are summarized as follows: (1)Greenfields are chosen by Taiwanese investors with higher financial performances .Firms with higher levels of multinational experience and technological intensity will tend to prefer greenfield diversification modes. The smaller the relative size of investment the more likely a firm is to prefer a greenfield diversification mode. (2)Firms with higher marketing intensity and human resources endowment have no statistically significant impact on the entry mode.
