Abstract
The research is based on the works in the period from 2005 to 2009. The topic of the research is ember of the other shore, whose issues are nature and time. Through the technique of light, shade, and shadow, the works show the prints of objects, the nature’s influence on human civilization, and the metaphors and imagination.
The main framework for this thesis comprises four chapters: Chapter 1 “Ember of the other shore”; Chapter 2 “The proverbs of time”, Chapter 3 “An echo of the nature”; Chapter 4 “Analysis and interpretation of paintings”.
The objectives of chapter 1 “Ember of the other shore” are two phases of this thesis; one is a reflection on descriptions of light and shade which are outmoded or not; the expression of light and shade in paintings which was everlasting eight hundred years of art history until the age of impressionism found that in form, there were many directions can be discussed, and therefore the descriptions of light and shade faded away in art history. The other phase are given an explanation of figurative painting which did not vanish from the progressing process in art history; on the contrary, contemporary artists create the new meaning of figurative painting with their intelligence.
The objectives of chapter 2 “The proverbs of time” are artistic description of “time-a series of still life” and analysis and discussion of the reference to art history which are relevant to my creation. The object which traditional still painter chose and arranged can arouse the viewer has short and empty feeling to life. The series reference to the light in Rembrandt’s painting which represented an emotion. The detailed description and dramatic light in paintings presents the conflict and sentiment of life.

The objectives of chapter 3 “An echo of the nature” are artistic description of “nature-the firmament and the earth” which are landscape paintings, and analysis and discussion of the reference to art history which are relevant to my creation. An artist has to use natural object to express the higher level abstract ideas as German romantic painter Friedrich his works and his spirit of creativity.
The objectives of chapter 4 “Analysis and interpretation of paintings” are mainly to discuss on paintings from “time-a series of still life” and “nature-the firmament and the earth” in form and connotation way. I give an explanation to the content, meaning, color and space of each work..
