Humor appreciation and humor comprehension of children as watching humorous cartoon, / 幼兒觀看幽默卡通之幽默欣賞與幽默理解-以海綿寶寶為例

碩士 / 臺北市立教育大學 / 幼兒教育學系碩士班 / 97 / This research aimed to explore the humor appreciation and humor comprehension of kindergarten children from different gender and age on humorous cartoon, take SpongeBob SquarePants for example, and the association of humor appreciation with humor comprehension . This research primarily was done by using a self-constructed questionnaire to conduct a survey and by broadcasting a cartoon to experiment on participants .The principle of purposive sampling was applied in the survey and in the experiment. In the survey, twenty-four public kindergarten was selected from Taipei County,Taipei City, Keelung City,Kaohsiung County and Chiayi County,and there are a total of 560 young children(276 boys and 284 girls ) who participated in this study.
In the experiment, eleven public kindergarten and nursery was selected from Taipei County, and there are a total of 187 young children(92 boys and 95 girls ) who participated in this study. Every child watched cartoon one by one and their facial mirth was recorded by camara, and then they were asked to evaluate the funniness ratings. The children were assessed humor comprehension by explanations whether they considered as funny providing their rationale. We analyzed the collected data with descriptive, two-way ANOVA and Pearson. The main findings of this study are as follows:
1. Based on the laughing response in six types of humor of different gender and age, we can conclude that the laughing response in six types of humor in male children are similar to those in female ones, and there are age differences including “mimicry”, “exaggeration”, “illogicalness”, “embarrassment” and “verbalization” , not including “trick”.
2. Based on the laughing response of different gender and age, we can conclude that the laughing response in male children are similar to those in female ones, and the children of 5 yrs old are superior to 4 yrs old.
3. Based on the funniness ratings of different gender and age, we can conclude that the rating results in male children are similar to those in female ones. And the phenomenon is also observed in the children of 4 yrs, 5 yrs, and 6 yrs old.
4. Based on the humor comprehension in the children of different gender and age, female children are superior to male ones. The children of 5 yrs and 6 yrs old are superior to those of 4 yrs old.
5. The humor appreciation (including laughing response and funniness ratings), and
humor comprehension are statistically positively correlated.
Finally,the researcher has concluded on the research results and provided some suggestions for the teachers, parents and the future researchers.
