Recently, it appears a serious shortage of seamen for the global main shipping countries. Taiwan has also faced the same situation on shortage of senior seamen. At present, the maritime college in Taiwan has recruited numerous female students. From a view of shipowners, it is worthy to discuss whether the increase on female seamen may solve the problem of seamen’s shortage in Taiwan. The study probes into the key factors affecting the female seamen serving on ships. First of all, the major shipping companies were interviewed. In addition, the analysis shall be deduced through analytic hierarchy process (AHP). It is expected that the conclusion may give the Government a reference for the policy of seamen.
