A Comparative Study Of Electric Wire And Cable Industry Performance Across The Taiwan Strait / 海峽兩岸電線電纜產業經營績效之比較分析

碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 國際企業學系碩士在職專班 / 98 / This study targets the sample of 16 public electric wire and cable companies across Taiwan Strait between 2005 and 2008. In empirical study, efficiency and productivity analysis is made with data envelopment analysis, Mann-Whitney U test and Malmquist productivity index. The empirical findings are:

1. From empirical results of data envelopment analysis on BCC model, Taiwan has more companies with complete efficiency in technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency than China does. Average efficiency value of Taiwanese companies is higher than those of Chinese counterparts.
2. Under Mann-Whitney U test, significant differences are found in technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency between Taiwanese and Chinese companies.Test of market share percentage shows significant difference in technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency. For Taiwanese companies, distinctive difference is found in amount of R&D budget in pure technical efficiency; test of size of scale shows no difference in test of all kinds of efficiencies.
3. With Malmquist productivity index, we understand the productivity changes of the 16 public electric wire and cable companies across Taiwan Strait. Between 2005 and 2008, Taiwan and Chinese companies won in turn. It is also learnt that technical changes are the main cause to affect productivity index changes in this industry.
