碩士 / 明志科技大學 / 工業工程與管理研究所 / 99 / In recent years, many companies set up their manufacturing plants in China to take advantages of lower cost and tax. The headquarters of these companies are still in Taiwan so that high quality employees can be recruited. Although lower cost can be achieved with this logistic network, more efficient supply chain management should also be implemented. According to the report of electronic companies, the increment of order and changes of the supply chain structure have forced companies to expand or move their plants. The locations of the plants have impact on cost, stocks and logistics network that should be considered thoroughly to strengthen the competitiveness of the company. However, the location selection in the company is usually based on the subjective preference of high ranking manager. This decision making process might result in a location with lower fixed cost (land purchasing and building construction cost) but higher operation cost (in-bound and out-bound transportation cost, inventory cost and shortage cost). Therefore, this research adapts real data from an electronic company with four plants located at four different areas (Dongguan, Kunsan, Tainjin, and Taiwan). A questionnaire survey is conducted to achieve important factors that are then analyzed using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Five major factors; Tax, Hiring Cost, Land Purchasing Cost, Supply Chain Environment and Transportation are identified and ranked to evaluate the possible location to expand a new factory. Our result shows that the best location is coincided with the old facility location Dongguan. This result is analyzed and confirmed with the company’s high ranking manager. A positive response from managerial department demonstrates the usefulness of implementing the proposed model into the real case that strengthen the value of this research.
