Competition Strategy Analysis for Taiwan’s Machine Tool Industry From Financial Tsunami Crisis Prospective / 從金融海嘯看台灣工具機產業競爭策略分析

碩士 / 國立中興大學 / 高階經理人碩士在職專班 / 98 / Machine tools are the central machineries for basic and precision machining. They are especially crucial to the aerospace, defense and automobile industries, as well as to the general machinery, metal machining and electronic industries. Machine tools not only produce metal parts for such industries as automobile, aerospace, defense, machinery, molding, electronics and generators, but also produce general metal components for a variety of machineries, and that is why they are sometimes referred to as the “Mother of Machines.” In the new semi-conductor and display panel industries, machine tools also play an important role in the production process of components and consumables. The extensive use of machine tools has a profound impact in the modern world.

Sustaining the global destruction caused by the American financial crisis, the machine tool industry in Taiwan faces an unprecedented challenge, and has been quietly undergoing an internal reshuffling and technological revolution. As competition increases from international and domestic challengers, the utilization of a superior competition strategy is vital to the success of the industry. This paper offers an in-depth analysis of Taiwan’s machine tool industry after the financial crisis, and provides a recommended strategy for the industry. It also presents a path for the industry to enhance its competitive advantage with a healthy competition strategy, and further create added value through differentiation in the post financial crisis era.
