Examine the Relationships between Fish Abundance and Landscape Features / 探討魚類豐度與棲息地河段地文因子之關係

碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 水利及海洋工程學系碩博士班 / 98 / This study attempted to examine the relationships between landscape features and fish abundance in a mountain stream of Taiwan. The study area is along the middle part of Cishan Stream catchment, Kaohsiung County, because of the available data for fish abundance and landscape features. Four fish species with higher abundance for study were Candidia barbata, Acrossocheilus paradoxus, Onychostoma alticorpus and Onychostoma barbatula. Landscape features, what are acquired from remote sensing data by using GIS, were analyzed as two groups, stable and unstable, in different spatial scales. Stable landscape features, what change chronically and slowly in a long period of time, included stream length, stream sinuosity, stream density, average altitude, average slope, and catchment width and shape. While unstable landscape features, what may relate to acutely and fast geomorphological changes, included average slope, altitude variation, soil erosion, and catchment shape.
Multiple regression results showed that year-round density of the A. paradoxus was significantly related to some stable landscape features within 300 meter radius of fish sampling sites. Fish density increased with increasing sampling stream length, decreasing average height, increasing average slope, and decreasing sinuosity. While examined the density in wet and dry seasons, this study found that wet season density of A. paradoxus, O. barbatula, and C. barbata were significantly related to some stable landscape features. For unstable landscape features, although regression failed to show significant relationships between fish density and landscape features, categorical analysis among sampling sites provided some ranking of habitat quality.
