A Study of Factors Affecting the Expatriates of Willingness - Machine Tool Industry / 海外派遣意願影響因素之研究-以工具機產業為例

The competition of machine tool industry in Taiwan is very keen due to the trend of globalization. In order to get the competitive advantages, the enterprises have established the factories at overseas one by one. However, the issue of expatriates is the essential one that shall be solved firstly during the process in expanding the business, besides that, how to choose a proper expatriate to keep the overseas companies operate normally is also a critical selection. What factors will affect an employee to accept the mission of the expatriate? An enterprise definitely can reduce the cost in causing the failure of expatriate if we raise the willingness of the expatriate to complete the mission more successfully. In addition, the enterprise can accomplish the situations of several wins, like making profits, increasing the incomes of employees as well as their promotions.
This study is aimed at exploring the factors affecting the willingness of expatriates, such as, family factors, personality traits, overseas adaptation and organizational supporting. Moreover, we totally sent out 500 questionnaires as target of the expatriates who are in the machine tool industry. The valid questionnaires are 150 copies, whose sample of valid rate is 30%. We test and verify the hypothesis of this study by means of descriptive statistics analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, analysis of variance and analysis of regression. There are several significant factors that we have earned will affect the willingness of expatriates in accordance with the results from the analysis of regression:
1. Family factors will affect the willingness of expatriates.
2. Diligence of personality traits will affect the willingness of expatriates.
3. Working Orientation in overseas adaptation will affect the willingness of expatriates.
4. The factors of organizational supporting to affect the willingness of expatriates are career plan, salary support and repatriation support.
According to the results of the analysis, the suggestions of this study are not merely to make the enterprises improve the conditions for the willingness of expatriates, but also raise the success ratio for the missions of the expatriates.
