with the development of the commercial and industrial activities and the growth of the population, the extent of damage to the regional drainage environment is more severe than anytime before. Due to the complexity of interaction between water environment and the Human beings, it is wise to investigate the re lationships between environmental perception, attitudes,behavior of residents and the place attachment in order to improve the water environment and
benefit the residents. The regional drainage of Old-Zhuoshui River in Changhua County is adopted to implement this study.
Interviews and questionnaires are used by this research to investigate about 473 persons.Then, factor analysis and linear structural equation model are employed to explore the dataset.This research shows that the environmental perception positively affects the environmental
attitudes; the environmental attitude positively affects the environmental behavior; and the place attachment also positively impacts the environmental behavior.
Most residents realize that the water environment was po lluted, but many of them have a wrong idea about the main source of the pollution. Although most of the residents have nice perceptions and attitudes toward protecting the environment, little real actions are taking. The residents wish the government can do more for improving the environment. If the government can do something to enhance the place attachment of residents to the water environment, the goals of sustainable management and development of the regional drainage environment should be more reachable.
